How to Maintain Your Mousse and Extend Its Lifespan

A mousse can last a long time if you take care of it properly. One of the most important things is making sure it always has enough lubrication. When you ride, the mousse moves slightly inside the tyre. This creates friction and heat, and without enough mousse gel the material can wear out much faster.

When fitting a new mousse, make sure to use plenty of mousse gel and spread it evenly around the mousse and inside the tyre. The mousse should be well covered, especially around the areas that are in constant contact with the tyre. It is also a good idea to check the mousse whenever you change tyres. Clean it up and apply fresh mousse gel before fitting it again.

How often you need to do this depends on how much you ride and what type of riding you do. Racing, hard terrain, high speeds and long rides generally create more heat and put more stress on the mousse. While the mousse is out of the tyre, check for damage, dry areas or if it has started to become noticeably softer or deformed.

There is no exact lifespan for a mousse. Some riders will get much more use out of one than others depending on riding style, terrain, tyre choice and maintenance. The simple rule is to keep it properly lubricated and check it regularly. Good maintenance helps reduce unnecessary heat and wear, and gives your mousse the best possible chance of lasting longer.
